About Us
The Paphos Golf Association (PGA) was formed in 2006 to provide reasonable priced golf for people who could not justify the expense of joining one of the four clubs in the Paphos region. We take the golf seriously but very much with fun in mind, catering for both ladies and men.
The association became members of the Cyprus Golf Federation (CGF) in 2008, and all the association’s members will be given a WHS handicap.
Competitions
The Association holds 2 PGA handicap qualifying competitions a month. The Monthly
Stableford Competition is held on the first Sunday of the month and is held at one of the four
golf clubs in the Paphos area (Aphrodite Hills, Secret Valley, Minthis and Elea). The
majority are held at Elea Golf Club which is our home course. The Mid-Monthly Stapleford
Competition is generally held on the third Sunday of the month, all of which are played at
Elea Golf Club. In these competitions you have the opportunity to chose which tee you play
off, White/Yellow for men and Yellow/Red for ladies.
In addition to the official PGA competitions, the majority of our members are Silver (off-peak)
members at Elea Golf Club, and arrange informal competitions on Wednesday and Friday
afternoons, and on a Sunday morning if there is no PGA competition being held. These
competitions are fun team games, many of which give members a chance to put in a card to
the CGF handicap system.
SOCIAL
The Association also has an active social side, which as well as organising informal mid-
week competitions, also include two match-play competitions on Captain’s Day and
Chairman’s Day which are usually match-play competitions followed by an evening dinner on
the same day or the next day. We also play a match-play knock-out competition each year.
MEMBERSHIP
At the moment we have a small number of vacancies for anyone with a WHS handicap of 36
or less. If you do not hold a valid handicap, you will need to play one qualifying round with a
committee member and achieve a standard of 36 or less in order to be eligible for
membership. The PGA year runs from 1 st January to the 31 st December. There is a one-off
joining fee of €50, together with an annual subscription of €50/year which is applied on a
sliding scale dependent on the time of year you join. There is also a requirement that all
members of the PGA have a CGF licence and handicap. Membership of the CGF is
€50/year, and for those that aren’t already members of the CGF, this can be arranged for
you by the PGA.
